Up in the kitchen on the main floor, Rosemary will offer you breakfast each morning, from a large selection ranging from home-made muesli, porridge and other cereals, to the full Scottish breakfast, succulent local kippers or scrambled egg and smoked salmon. She also offers continental breakfast, in your room if you wish, or breakfasts for special dietary needs. Packed lunches are available on request.

Garden area at Lichen Burn B&B in Argyll Scotland

You will of course be most welcome to explore our one-and-a-half-acre garden with its ancient oak trees all hung about with the lichen which gives our house its name. This lichen, Pseudocyphellaria norvegica, is rare in Britain and indeed worldwide, having been polluted almost out of existence. It remains common in Argyll because of the purity of the air and the right mix of host broadleaved trees.

Just across the river is the Caledonian Forest Reserve, with its oak trees so old that moss, ferns and wild honeysuckle grow on the trunks and branches. Wild red deer, pine martens, otters and many other kinds of fauna abound. The neighbouring farmer farms red deer and North American bison within a few hundred yards of Lichen Burn.
